District Mission
Brooklyn North High Schools will engage in Centering children, Leading with Love, and Innovating for Tomorrow. These commitments will be data driven, build collective efficacy, and reflect an asset- based lens to ensure that each student is provided with loving, inclusive learning communities where they can pursue their passions, achieve academic excellence and economic freedom.
District Vision
Each Brooklyn North High School student will be provided with a loving, inclusive learning community where they can pursue their passions, achieve academic excellence and economic freedom. They will graduate within four years, college and career ready, highly qualified to collaborate, communicate, think critically and be creative to persist as global citizens.
PRIORITY 1
Literacy/NYC Reads
- By June 2027, literacy rates for all students will improve, as measured by a 2-3 point increase, from 74.13 to 76.13-77.13, of the average score on the NYS ELA Regents exam results.
- By June 2027, literacy rates for 9th and 10th grade students reading Far Below Expectations will improve, as measured by a 4% increase, from 51% to 55%, achieving average or above average growth on the MAP Reading Assessment.
- By June 2027, literacy rates for Students with Disabilities (SWD) will improve, as measured by a 4 point increase, from 65.34 to 69.34, of the district average score on the NYS ELA Regents Exam Results.
- By June 2027, literacy rates for English Language Learners (ELL) will improve, as measured by a 5% increase, from 60% to 65%, of the percentage of students who are making average or above average growth on the MAP growth reading assessment.
PRIORITY 2
Math /NYC Solves
- By June 2027, the district average Algebra I Regents score for all students will increase by 3-7 points, from 61.26 to 64.26 -68.26, as measured by NYS Algebra 1 Regents Exam results.
- By June 2027, the percent of students scoring in the low and low average quintile on the EOY Map growth assessment will decrease by 2%-4% percent, from 52% to 48%-50%, as measured by students' overall RIT score.
- By June 2027, the district average Algebra I Regents score for Students with Disabilities will increase by 3 points, from 56.55 to 59.55 as measured by the NYS Algebra 1 Regents Exam results.
- By June 2027, the district average Algebra I Regents score for English Language Learners (ELLs) will increase by 2 points, from 57.45 to 59.45, as measured by the New York State Algebra I Regents Examination results.
PRIORITY 3
Safe and Inclusive schools
- By June 2027, safety/belonging for all students will improve, as measured by a 2% decrease,in repeat suspensions from 21% to 19%, per the Online Occurrence Reporting System (OORS), Insight, Power BI.
- By June 2027, safety/belonging for all Students will improve, as measured by a 2% decrease, in the number of Level 4–5 incidents across targeted locations (classroom, hall, staircase, and cafeteria) from 888 to 870, per the OORS, Insight, and Power BI.
PRIORITY 4
Community Engagement
- By June 2027, the advanced course enrollment for all students will increase by 1.5%-3.0% from 74% to 74.5%-76% as measured by Insight.
- By June 2027, 1:1 College and Career Advising Sessions for all students will Increase by 1% from 98% to 99% as measured by STARS and Insight.
- By June 2027, there will be a 3% increase in overall pass rate on the Earth and Space Science Regents exam for All Students from 37% to 40% as measured by June 2027 Earth and Space Science Regents ISA Data.
- By June 2027, the number of Brooklyn North High Schools offering the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) will increase from 30 to 33 schools as measured by the Office of Multilingual Learners reports.
PRIORITY 5
Attendance/Chronically Present, Every Day Matters
- By June 2027, the overall attendance for all students will increase by 4%, from 88% to 92%, as measured by Insight.
- By June 2027, the percentage of chronically absent students will decrease by 3%, from 32% to 29%, as measured by Insight.
